Welcome to Hunter House Recovery, a nonprofit sanctuary dedicated to healing and hope for individuals on the path to recovery from substance use disorder. Located in Southeast Michigan, we provide safe, structured housing and compassionate support services that empower residents to rebuild their lives. At Hunter House, we believe recovery is a journey best taken together—with dignity, purpose, and community at the core.
TEACH.TRAIN.TRANSFORM
Hunter House addresses internal conflicts and perspectives on self, family, and society. We stabilize addiction to treat underlying issues, not just symptoms. Our program develops men mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. We aim to reduce recidivism and relapse, reuniting whole individuals with families and community.
Mission Statement
Hunter House exists to guide men through the lifelong process of recovery — not just from substance use, but from the emotional wounds, false identities, and generational cycles that have kept them stuck.
We are committed to building whole men — emotionally grounded, spiritually awakened, and personally responsible. Our mission is to create a safe, structured, and transformative space where sobriety is only the beginning, and where each man learns to live with purpose, integrity, and dignity.
Vision Statement
Our vision is to redefine what recovery looks like for men.
We envision a world where every man who enters Hunter House not only breaks free from addiction but also rediscovers his true identity, heals from his past, and becomes a source of strength to his family, his community, and himself. We aim to be known as a culture-building sanctuary — where men learn to feel safe in their own skin and walk out with the tools to lead courageous, authentic, and meaningful lives.
Core Values
1. Whole-Person Recovery
We believe recovery is more than sobriety — it’s a continual process of healing the mind, body, and spirit. We address the roots of addiction, not just its symptoms.
2. Masculine Identity Reimagined
We challenge outdated, harmful models of manhood and replace them with a vision of masculinity rooted in empathy, strength, humility, and self-awareness.
3. Integrity & Accountability
We hold ourselves and each other to high standards of honesty, consistency, and personal responsibility — because real growth requires truth and trust.
4. Emotional Healing & Self-Acceptance
We create space for men to feel, express, and understand their emotions. We teach that vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness, and that self-forgiveness is essential.
5. Community & Brotherhood
Recovery happens in relationships. We foster a brotherhood of support, mutual respect, and shared commitment to change.
6. Legacy & Leadership
Our goal is not only personal transformation but community impact. We empower men to return to their families and communities as healed, productive, and honorable leaders.
Hunter House Recovery
My name is Thomas Hunter, and I am a man in recovery. For much of my life, I struggled with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), navigating its shadows and searching for light. Through grace and determination, I’ve found a path toward healing — and I believe that path was not given to me by chance. I was saved from addiction with a purpose: to serve and support others who are fighting the same battle.
In this journey, I’ve come to understand the deep need for men to heal — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. We must learn to grow beyond survival, to embrace vulnerability, and to find security in our true selves. That growth doesn't happen alone. It takes community, compassion, and a space where dignity is restored.
Hunter House is the embodiment of a vision that took root nearly two decades ago. When I lost my father in 2010, the pain opened my heart to a new calling — to create a place where men could come together, not in shame, but in hope. A place where transformation is possible.
Today, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to live out that vision. Hunter House is not just a recovery home — it’s a mission, a brotherhood, and a sanctuary for men seeking healing. To be of service here is both a responsibility and a blessing.
Our Team
Since entering Hunter House, my recovery has evolved from simply staying sober to actively transforming my life. I’ve committed to becoming a better man—not just for myself, but for the people I love. Each day, I set meaningful goals that move me closer to my full potential. I’m learning to offer myself grace and patience, honoring the journey while continuing to be of service to others, both within the recovery community and beyond.
My name is Matthew Troy, and I’ve been staying at Hunter House. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the incredible culture here. The leadership is outstanding—loving, caring, and compassionate. The men in these houses are deeply connected, constantly encouraging each other while staying accountable and responsible. Thomas has built a culture focused on growing strong men, not just staying sober. I truly wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Choosing to continue my recovery here has been the best decision I’ve made.
